Vita
Shasha Chen is a composer and multimedia artist from China, currently based in the United States of America. She uses compositional, interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches in the form of “conceptual (new) music theater” to explore socio-political issues such as identity, gender, patriarchy and violence. She is a winner of the Presser Music Award 2024 and received a scholarship for the Art Omi Residency. Her music and art works have been performed at festivals, concerts and exhibitions such as Wiener Festwochen, TIME:SPANS Festival, MaerzMusik Festival, Forecast Forum, Phoenix Satellite, impuls Music Festival, Montréal Contemporary Music Lab, esc median kunst labor Gallery, New York School of Visual Arts, LATITUDE Gallery New York, Shanghai Himalayas Museum, Beijing Luan Gallery and others. She has collaborated with Talea Ensemble, loadbang, International Contemporary Ensemble, LIGAMENT, Ensemble Phoenix, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Ensemble NEKO3, Ensemble Linea and Klangforum Wien, among others. Shasha holds a doctorate in composition from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins.
