The winner of the »International Hanns Eisler Scholarship of the City of Leipzig 2019« has been announced. It is Gregor Forbes (*1993) from Edinburgh. Gregor was born in Edinburgh in 1993. His music studies took him to St Catharine’s College at Cambridge University, where Giles Swayne and Richard Causton were among his composition teachers. He completed his master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow in
composition (with David Fennessy) and piano (Clare Sutherland).
Gregor Forbes currently lives and works in Edinburgh as a freelance composer, pianist and conductor.
He is also active in the new music scene as a concert organizer, blogger and music journalist.

The award was presented to him at musica nova on 10 October by Dr. Skadi Jennicke, Culture Minister of the City of Leipzig, and the Eisler-Haus Leipzig e. V. We congratulate Gregor and look forward to welcoming him as Composer in Residence in Leipzig in April 2019.
